Most Requested Interior Design & Decorating Projects

Interiors

We’re so fortunate here at Staci Edwards Design Inc. because we’re so very busy, and I know that many people are struggling right now due to COVID, so I am truly thankful. While we are busy, we’re continuing to take on new interior design and decorating projects and partner up with the most wonderful new clients (of course, our past and existing clients are all wonderful too). Today we’re sharing our most requested projects and how we’re helping our clients, in case you’ve been thinking of doing the same and are curious to know how it works.

Interior Design For New Builds

There are a lot of new builds lately; you may have even noticed yourself while out and about. We love working on the interior design for new builds (we’re currently working on two and have proposals out for two more – cross your fingers for us) because we get to start entirely from scratch. We’re often called in on a new build right as the architect is finishing up the overall design, and the clients are almost ready (or just starting to) apply for permits. The architect is in charge of designing the home, where all of the rooms will be, and has a strong focus on exterior finishes. Our job is to take that plan and complete the interior design. We spend time getting to know our clients, how they live, and the style they love. We may make a few small changes to what the architect has proposed, and we’ll source all that is required to finish the home. We source all required flooring, doors, trim, cabinet styles, hardware, paint, stain, decorative wall treatments, tile, grout, countertops, plumbing fixtures, and decorative lighting to give the home a designer look. We’ll present all of these items at the design presentation along with 3D drawings so that our clients can see the space before the build starts. Then we prepare drawings which include all required floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, lighting plans, switch plans, electrical plans, finishes plans, elevations, detailed tile drawings, detailed millwork drawings, detailed product placement drawings such as cabinet hardware and heights for hanging light fixtures. Having all of these details worked out ahead of time allows the contractors to work efficiently and build the home exactly as our clients have seen in our presentation, which helps them enjoy the build knowing that their dream home is almost complete.

Interior Design For Renovations

Renovations are very similar to new builds, but our clients may not have worked with an architect first, depending on the project’s size and scope. If there is an addition, we recommend connecting with an architect first, but if not, then we can usually handle everything. We focus on everything from whole home renovations down to single space renovations, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Now, if you’ve just read all about new builds, then you may want to skip this part because it’s the same. We source all required flooring, doors, trim, cabinet styles, hardware, paint, stain, decorative wall treatments, tile, grout, countertops, plumbing fixtures, and decorative lighting to give the home a designer look. We’ll present all of these items at the design presentation along with 3D drawings so that our clients can see the space before the renovation starts. Then we prepare drawings which include all required floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, lighting plans, switch plans, electrical plans, finishes plans, elevations, detailed tile drawings, detailed millwork drawings, detailed product placement drawings such as cabinet hardware and heights for hanging light fixtures. Having this detailed interior design package for the contractor means that he should not have many questions for you as he works because we’ve thought of everything. This makes the renovation process exciting because our clients know everything has been thought of, so they get to sit back and get excited about their new space!

Interior Design & Decorating Home Offices

Needless to say, we’ve been getting a lot of inquiries about interior design and decorating services for home offices these days. I think even when the world is back to normal, we’ll all still be working from home often, don’t you? For this reason, we’re being asked to design spaces or even simply consult (yes, we offer consultations too, see below) on creating beautiful and functional workspaces at home. Many of our clients request to turn their formal living rooms that never get used to entire offices, and others are putting workspaces into family rooms or guest bedrooms to create more multi-functional spaces. No matter how we do it, our clients are thrilled to have a dedicated workspace so that they can avoid having their dining tables cluttered and so that they can truly shut work off at the end of the day. Sounds great, right?

Interior Decorating Services

A lot of people are at home and not necessarily loving how their rooms look. Perhaps they are dated, maybe they are not functioning well for how the space is used now, perhaps they’re just tired-looking and given how much we’re at home these days, our rooms need to look great to help us feel great. No matter the reason, our interior decorating services are a fantastic way to get a space you love without having to renovate. We’re currently offering decorating services virtually (and have been for over a year since the first COVID lockdown), and our clients are loving it! We get to know our clients first and determine a style direction, our clients send us dimensions of their space, and we draw it and send it back to confirm. Once we have the dimensions and style direction nailed down, we get working on sourcing everything needed to fully furnish and decorate the space. Here’s what our clients can expect to see at their virtual interior decorating presentation: space plans, paint colours, furniture space plans, sourcing of all furniture, area rugs, window treatments, toss pillows, decorative lighting, artwork and main accessories. We do not offer 3D drawings for decorating projects, but we do have a complete visual package with a mood board to enable our clients to visualize the space. Keep in mind that furniture and decor are taking longer to make these days, but our clients always mention it was worth the wait when it’s done and delivered!

Virtual Interior Design & Decorating Consultations

Our virtual interior design and decorating consultations have never been so popular as they have been this past year due to COVID. Everyone is at home, not necessarily loving their space and not really knowing where to begin – Our virtual consultations are a perfect place to start! This is a one-hour consultation with me (Staci) to gain total clarity around what you can do in your home to make some positive changes. Each interior design and decorating consultation is very specific to each client, so they vary, but I usually cover things like space planning, colour palettes, storage solutions, ideas for future renovations, budget discussions, how to prioritize, etc. Before we get on our call, I ask you to do some homework and fill out a questionnaire and ask you to send it back with photos of your home and inspiration images of spaces that you like. Having this information ahead of time allows me to prepare in advance so that we can hit the ground running when we get on our call. Our clients love these calls because it’s a little something they’ve done for themselves (and who doesn’t deserve a bit of extra self-care these days?), and they walk away with clarity and a plan for ways to update their home. It’s awesome!
