Tips for Creating the Perfect Relaxing Night at Home

Creating a relaxing night at home is one of my absolute favourite things. Snuggling up with a cozy blanket next to the crackling fire, lights dimmed, candles burning, a good book or movie on, and yummy snacks by my side… ahhh. In my opinion, that comforting feeling is what home is all about, and it’s exactly what I love creating for our clients.

As we enter into the holiday season, it becomes far too easy to fill our calendars to the brim. It is essential to schedule time to unwind, relax, and recharge ourselves – and there is no better way to do so than in your most special place…home.

Today I’m sharing everything you need to create a perfect night at home. No reservation required. So pour yourself a glass of red, and let’s get started…

Plan Ahead

From your snacks to your entertainment, preparing your selections in advance will allow for a smooth and stress-free evening. Because an empty pantry and endless Netflix scrolling don’t exactly equate to relaxation, right? Remove the overwhelm of game-time decisions by researching what you’d like to watch, read, and eat ahead of time, and have everything ready and available for you.

During the holidays, I pull out my feel-good favourite movies like Love Actually, The Holiday, and The Family Stone for all the inspiring, happy vibes. When it comes to snacks, I love having healthy bites that don’t require extensive cleanup. A beautifully layered charcuterie board, some Laid Back Snacks (Ginger Staycation is my personal fave), high-quality chocolate, and of course, a delightful glass of wine, tea, or kombucha.

Limit Distractions

It is far too easy to become inundated with notifications galore in our over-connected digital era. Give yourself (and your brain) a much-needed break, and avoid engaging with all devices for a night. Place your phone on “do not disturb,” or better yet, turn it off completely. Keep your iPad and laptop out of sight. Trust me, you won’t miss them.

Set the Ambiance

Our environment directly influences how we feel, so it is no surprise that establishing a peaceful atmosphere is essential in creating your perfect night at home. Set the mood by dimming the lights, burning your favourite candle, turning on the fire, and playing music that inspires relaxation.

Get Cozy

You have your snacks, entertainment, and ambiance, and now it is officially time to enjoy it all. Get yourself cozy in an elevated lounge set that makes you look and feel good (I have a cashmere set from here and love it). Then, layer your favourite plush throw blankets and pillows and snuggle in for your most relaxing night yet. Bonus? If coziness is built into your home design, it won’t take much effort to get here.

My advice?

Practice this often! Scheduling time to enjoy a relaxing evening at home should be a year-round priority. It brings balance to chaos and provides moments of peace as you escape the hustle and recharge your mind, body, and soul.
