Custom furniture is one of my favourite items to source for our clients’ homes. No matter which way you look at it, there are huge advantages when compared to retail showroom options. In fact, going custom is the reason my furniture survived this Sharpie marker fiasco!
So, what’s the difference? And is custom furniture really worth the investment? Let’s take a look…
Have you ever purchased furniture from a big box store only to discover how uncomfortable it is or how poorly it looks after just a few months of daily wear and tear? You’re not alone. Retail options may be easily accessible, but they simply aren’t constructed to last.
By comparison, custom furniture is made with high-quality craftsmanship and more durable materials. For those daily use items (like beds, sofas, armchairs, and dining chairs), going with quality is always a smart investment. If you have kids, pets, or messy spouses, investing in sturdy furniture really pays off in the long run.
Unlike standard big box sofas available with only a few options, custom furniture gives you a wide array of options — or the freedom to design something unique from scratch. This is true for style customizations (see #3), but also true for ever-important functionality, such as:
When you opt for handmade, personalized furniture instead of mass-produced, you instantly take your home design to the next level. The best part? You’ll have unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect your personality and lifestyle. (Get ready for all of your friends and family to ask, “Where’d you get that?”) We can customize the style of the piece with respect to…
While it’s more cost-effective to go with customizable furniture, designing from scratch is also an option. For example, we recently completed a project where our clients were searching for a dining sofa that needed to be 12’ long, and we simply couldn’t find something that large and comfortable. So we worked with a trusted vendor and designed a gorgeous piece that fits perfectly in their space.
Custom furniture is created by a team of experts and artisans, not an assembly line. So not only are you supporting local small businesses, but you get the highest level of workmanship and service. In fact, my team and I take great pride in creating relationships with the best and brightest vendors in our industry. This makes your design experience top-notch and ensures lasting happiness and support with your new piece.
Most custom furniture can only be purchased through an interior designer or decorating professional with access to exclusive trade-only resources. When we work together to furnish your space, we will sort through our network to present you with the best options for your style, lifestyle, and your desired project investment. This is an exciting part of the process, and I guarantee you will love it!
