How To Spend a Day Downtown Burlington

Are you looking for a delightful little escape from the everyday hustle and bustle? Well, look no further because Downtown Burlington, Ontario, is your perfect destination! Nestled along the serene shores of Lake Ontario, this charming city combines sophistication with relaxation.

I’m lucky because I’ve lived in Downtown Burlington for nearly 10 years, and my new-ish office is a short walk (4 minutes, to be exact) from my home in the Village Square. I recently asked on Instagram if anyone would like me to share some of my favourite places in Downtown Burlington, and I had oodles of you say yes, so here we go…

Today, I’m sharing my favourite places in Downtown Burlington. I’ll include some things that Spencer likes too, so if you’re a mom and want to bring the kids, you’ll have a few ideas to keep them happy. So whether you’re a local needing inspiration or a visitor seeking guidance, let’s embark on a mini adventure through the heart of Downtown Burlington together, shall we?

Morning – Retail Therapy

First on our list is retail therapy because, let’s face it, we all need a little of that from time to time. Downtown Burlington is adorned with some of the cutest boutiques and shops.

But first, I’d hit Kelly’s Bake Shoppe for a sweet treat (their World Peace Cookie is my favourite) and a matcha latte to go. Their gluten-free and vegan delights redefine indulgence. This is also where we typically go to get treats for our clients when they come to our office for presentations. Oh, and if you’ve got kids, be sure to get them the mini donuts, which are a big hit with Spencer.

Now, let’s move on to Joelle’s, a trendy haven on Brant Street that showcases the latest styles and accessories. I always find fun casual pieces and dressier items to help elevate my wardrobe. When I wear something from their shop, I often have someone ask me where I got it.

Of course, I would not consider it a fun day without a bit of home decor shopping, so Centro Garden would be my next stop. Discover unique plants and beautiful home decor accessories that will help to infuse character into your space. They also have a great collection of crystals, Spencer’s favourite part of the store, and many fantastic gift ideas. And don’t forget to check out their Farmer’s Market on Sunday mornings from 9-12, it starts Mother’s Day weekend and runs until Thanksgiving.

Afternoon – Lunch & Fun

After a successful shopping spree, it’s time to indulge in a culinary adventure that will leave your taste buds dancing.

Lettuce Love Cafe is a favourite spot of mine to grab a quick bite. Their menu is a delightful mix of vegan and plant-based dishes that invigorate your senses while nourishing your well-being. And no, I am not vegan, but their creations are just so good I keep going back again and again.

If you’re looking for a place to sit and enjoy for a while, swing by The North Coal. This rustic-style restaurant has a unique collection of items on its menu, and I’ve never had something I didn’t love. I switch things up occasionally, but right now, my favourite go-to lunch item is their BBQ Chicken on Nann with a side salad. Spencer loves their kid’s burger and fries (and yes, I sneak some of his fries too).

And when it’s time for a sweet escape, head over to Creme De La Creme, an artisanal ice cream shop. Discover new flavours and relish the simple pleasure of a classic treat. I always get the mini cone dipped in mint chocolate with peanuts on top. Honestly, it’s the best combination. If you try it and love it, please let me know by tagging me on Instagram. They have fun flavours for kids, too. Spencer gets his dipped in cotton candy and has fruity pebbles on top. It’s a win-win for the whole family, and they have the most delightful staff members.

Next up, take a stroll along the lake. Downtown Burlington is blessed with natural beauty that complements its urban charm. Taking a leisurely waterfront stroll along the shores of Lake Ontario is one of my favourite things to do. The soothing ambiance and breathtaking views make it the perfect place to clear your mind and soak up the area’s natural beauty. There is a small beach close to the Brant Street Pier, and if you continue to walk west, there is a much larger beach that is perfect for a long walk.

There are also a couple of parks along the water, so it’s also an excellent spot for kids. And if you can convince Dad to watch the kids for long enough, you could slip away for a quick visit to The Pearle Hotel Spa. The lavish treatments and stunning, serene surroundings provide a luxurious and rejuvenating spa experience. And be sure to try their little muffins in the lounge – I go there more often than I should just to get my hands on those muffins. Lol!

Evening – Dinnertime

After that full day of fun, you’ll likely be hungry for a delicious dinner. Luckily, I have a few wonderful options for you…

Spencer’s at the Waterfront has stunning views of Lake Ontario, a farm-to-table menu that uses locally sourced ingredients and a great wine selection to match. Fun fact – This is one of Spencer’s favourites because “it’s named after him” (he says). Chris and I actually met at Spencer Smith Park, so Spencer is named after that. Cute, right?

Isabelle is located in The Pearle Hotel and offers an exquisite dining experience, where gourmet dishes are paired with a carefully curated wine list. They also have a decent kids’ menu and incredible lake views if you can sit outside or by the window.

Either of the above restaurants would be perfect for unwinding and savouring delicious flavours in a relaxed, beautiful setting.

In Conclusion

Downtown Burlington is the perfect spot for a fun day with its mix of retail gems, culinary delights, and natural beauty. So, gather your family and friends, or embark on a solo adventure for a fun, stylish, and rejuvenating experience to help you create happy memories. Oh, and let me know if you’ll be in the area, and maybe you can stop into my office to say hello – It would be great to meet you!
