Toronto Interior Design Project – Olivia’s Garden Before & After

pretty coffee shop with curved bar area

Gorgeous bouquets, mouth-watering pastries, and the heavenly aroma of freshly roasting coffee beans? There’s no doubt about it… You’re inside Olivia’s Garden, a boutique coffee shop and floral studio in Toronto. But let’s be honest, custom florals and specialty beverages aren’t the only things drawing visitors through the door…

The interiors are stunning (if we do say so ourselves)! We were honoured to design this space to create an ambiance that perfectly matches the owners’ beautiful vibe, love of French cafés, and vision for a space that would bring the community together. Today, we’re taking you through the before photos and finished design… oh and when you’re done reading this, we highly recommend you go visit in person!

The Before: Blank Slate, Big Dreams

An almost empty shop, concrete floors, white walls and a ladder

Starting with a blank slate is always fun. To bring the owners’ vision of a French-inspired café to life, we knew the space needed to be light, bright, neutral, and classic. The only challenge? Incorporating everything on their wish list into such a small space:

  • Brand new washroom
  • Walk-in fridge area for flowers
  • Storage area
  • Floral studio
  • Retail area
  • Coffee bar
  • Seating for guests

This was our first time designing a commercial space, and we learned a lot during the process. Our team had to get creative with several different amenities to fit into a long, narrow space. (LOVE that.) We designed thoughtful zones to provide practical, functional working areas.  Then we pulled together all of the finishes and fixtures to give this space that designer look the owners were after. Thankfully, our clients loved everything we presented. Confession…we did, too!

Now, come step inside the newly designed space…

A Chic & Classic French-Inspired Café

Beautiful! You’re instantly greeted by soft curves and a clean, neutral colour palette with pops of greenery. This custom and curved coffee bar creates a Parisian vibe with its traditional millwork details. Meanwhile, we balanced the look with modern chairs and sleek lighting for a touch of coolness. Next, you step up to the counter, and it’s time to place your order…

While the design of the space may be neutral, the menu is full of bold colour — like their playful and absolutely delicious handcrafted beverages. I love that we created a neutral backdrop that allows their creations to really make a splash! Grab your beverage, a crispy-buttery croissant, and come find a seat…

Ambient lighting and cozy seating are two important coffee shop essentials. We selected sophisticated white and brass designer pendants to infuse this space with elegance, while this spacious, custom banquette provides comfortable and practical seating for guests. Bonus? It allowed for a great branding opportunity and a lively focal point above — Plants!

As you continue through the shop, you’ll reach another well-designed space bursting with beauty, creativity, and life…

The Floral Studio at Olivia’s Garden

Voilà! An amazing floral workshop, custom bouquets, special event arrangements…this floral studio has it all. Custom cabinetry provides clean and organized storage for necessities, while large tabletops give their team enough room to work their magic. Or, stop by for a class to create your own magic! (You may find us there.)

Last but not least, these sweet and dainty vintage-inspired shelf rails in the retail area of the shop are the best! Each detail effortlessly came together to create this dreamy, French-inspired cafe and flower shop, and we couldn’t love it more.

Happy Clients

Okay, we don’t like to choose favourites, but it’s safe to say that working on this project brought our entire team sooo much joy. Here’s what the owners of Olivia’s Garden had to say about working with us at Staci Edwards Interior Design…

“We are so delighted with the design of our flower and coffee shop! We hired Staci and her team and presented our branding package, a little direction as to the style we were after, and the design they presented was perfect. Our shop turned out better than we expected – classic, pretty, with a bit of French flair – exactly what we were hoping for. Our customers always comment on how beautiful it is and how much they love the atmosphere. We love it too. Thank you to Staci and her team for designing such a wonderful space!”
