3 Tips For A Magazine-Worthy Kitchen

As you may know, my kitchen was featured in Style At Home Magazine (you can see it on our media page HERE), so this week I thought it would be fun to share a few of my tips for creating a magazine-worthy kitchen.

Mix Your Finishes

Mixing your finishes is a great way to add interest to your kitchen and show you’re not afraid to mix it up, like a designer. As you can see, I mixed metals by having stainless appliances combined with brass hardware and faucets. I also incorporated different countertop materials by using quartz for the main areas and a butcher block countertop on the island. The key to mixing finishes is to repeat it a few times within the space, so it doesn’t look like a mistake. You’ll also want to spread the mixed finishes apart throughout your kitchen to allow it to feel balanced.

Make A Statement

Your lighting and faucets should really work together to add style and enhance the overall look of your kitchen, so why not use them to make a statement? I selected stream-lined globe pendants and combined them with a more traditional looking faucet. Mixing the old and new looks works well in my 1865 home, and it allows them to both become a point of interest.

Add Art and Accessories

Pulling in art and accessories is the final step for creating a magazine-worthy kitchen. It not only finishes off the kitchen but also allows you to show your sense of style and personality. By mixing the finishes, layering in art, favourite cookbooks, and old and new accessories, it makes this kitchen feel well lived in and beautifully curated.

Most people assume I love interior design because I love beautiful spaces. And I do. But the truth is — it’s never really been about the rooms. It’s about the people who live in them. The conversations around the kitchen island. The quiet mornings with coffee in your favourite corner chair. The feeling of walking […]
